Rontos' are a huge saurian of imposing size and appearance. Standing on four legs, Rontos have small eyes with pointed ears, and beak-like mouths. Rontos have excellent hearing and a superb sense of smell but they do have poor eyesight, so they are often startled by sudden movement. Although well-suited to desert environments such as their indigenous homeworld of Tatooine, Rontos require a great deal of water to survive. They shed heat through their skin, and the flap-like folds framing their faces, which they extended to cover their eyes during sandstorms. Their great strength and hardiness makes them ideal mounts. Although possessing an imposing size and appearance, Rontos are very skittish and easily startled. Easily domesticated, Rontos are utilized by Jawas as beasts of burden to haul cargo to and from trading posts, as well as mounts. These animals are loyal to their masters, and both gentle and strong.
